About Suzuki Farm

With the motto "Grow vegetables that you want to eat," in March 2013, we started farming as Suzuki Farm in Aritama Nishi-cho, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
We farmed in Hamamatsu City for 8 years, but due to the development of residential land, in April 2021, we moved and restarted our farm in Ayame, Hadano City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Naturally, we do not use anything that we are not satisfied with (for example, pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, etc.).
We also try to limit the use of homemade compost as much as possible, and grow healthy vegetables even if they grow slowly or cannot be harvested in large quantities.

Rather than weak vegetables that are tailored to human convenience, such as ``neutral'', ``no odor'', and ``easy to eat'', we would like to provide vegetables that are full of wild flavor and allow you to feel the breath of life. The vegetables we produce will be assembled into seasonal vegetable sets and delivered directly to your home from the farmers. If you are in the area, we will deliver it directly to you at the field.

"Vinyl mulch" covers the ridges of a field with black or transparent vinyl. At Suzuki Farm, we don't use fields that are covered in glaring black vinyl because we don't find them beautiful.

Rather than turning a field into a field just for harvesting crops, our goal is to create a field that is in harmony with nature and fosters biodiversity.
We aim to create a sustainable form of agriculture that allows us to coexist and co-prosper with living things and the natural environment.

We do not produce genetically modified or genome-edited crops.

We don't use pesticides.

I try to grow my own seeds. 

  Collecting seeds from vegetables that you have grown yourself is called "self-seeding."

The majority of vegetables currently on the market are "F1 varieties," which do not produce crops with the same characteristics as the first generation (parent generation) even if seeds are collected and the second generation is grown. For this reason, it is essential to buy vegetable seeds.

However, some varieties can be self-seeded. Crops that can self-seed are called "fixed seeds/landraces."

At Suzuki Farm, we mainly cultivate fixed species. And I would like to collect my own seeds as much as possible (I also grow F1).

 

Regarding fertilizers, etc. used

At Suzuki Farm, we do not believe that it is enough to grow large plants by giving them lots of water and fertilizer. Vegetables that have been grown to the limit have a strong taste, flavor, and texture, and are delicious to eat.

●Pruned branch chip compost

Crush the pruned branches into small pieces with a chipper and pile them up in the open.Naturally fermented. We use compost with different degrees of ripeness depending on the purpose.

Once fully ripened, a small amount is used mainly as additional fertilizer.

*Vegetables grow by absorbing nutrients from the earth in addition to photosynthesis. When humans harvest, the nutrients are removed from the earth. I think it's easy to understand because it's a simple subtraction. And if you repeat the harvest, the nutrients will only decrease.

Of course, I don't think there will be any problems if the land is so fertile that the harvest can be ignored, or if it is cultivated (for home use) where there is no need to consider the yield.

hereHadano has volcanic ash soil and has very good drainage, so it can be cultivated even after a typhoon.It's the kind of soil you can put in. "Good drainage" = "At the same time, water-soluble fertilizers are removed.That's why I feel that the fertilizer is being removed very quickly.

I have loved the outdoors since I was a child, and I love insects and fish. I also made a plastic model. When I was in high school, I commuted from Miyakoda to Hamamatsu Minami High School by bicycle even on rainy days.
